Lean Enterprise Series

Lean manufacturing concepts, methods, and tools are based on the world’s most efficient manufacturing technology. Lean enterprise has been adapted and adopted by all types of organizations-manufacturing, financial, healthcare, insurance, government, and military institutions have all embraced lean because of its ability to transform organizations. Enroll in any or all of the sessions.

Lean Elements Overview - CANCELLED
Lean is reducing waste by eliminating non-value-added activities. Lean utilizes the knowledge of all company employees to create a high performance organization. Continuous improvement is realized by the un-ending reduction of waste in all areas of the organization.

September 15

Kaizen
Kaizen is the engine that uses the lean elements to implement improvement. Typically it involves a team of employees working on a specific opportunity in implement improvement. The team has a leader/facilitator; the team receives training, and the team is empowered to make practical improvements using their creativity instead of capital.

5S
5S is a system of steps and procedures used to organize a work area to optimize performance, comfort, safety, and cleanliness. Generally 5S is the starting point for most improvement projects.

Lean Tools
Lean uses a number of simple, common sense, basic data gathering and problem solving tools. All employees are trained in using these tools and the principal of using data is ingrained throughout the organization.

October 6

Process Flow I & II
Producing widgets, illustrates how incorporating Lean theory of TAKT time, cycle time, and dedicated lines can improve customer service, inventory, quality, efficiency. The eight-step improvement process will be introduced. This session incorporates Lean theories of lot size reduction, balance of work, pull vs. push, and visual controls into the widget production system.

October 13

Quality and Variability
Session includes definitions of quality, customer, specifications, and defect prevention. What is variation and what causes it? When is it a problem and how can it be reduced?

October 20

SMED
A process to facilitate the rapid changeover of equipment, SMED enables manufacturing to focus on what needs to be produced when it is needed.

October 27

Change
A key element of Lean is the “Culture of Change”. How do people react to change and how to help them let go of the old and move into the new. In Lean, “Change is good- More change is better.”
